Goals and Objectives
  • Infusing GIS technology throughout the secondary school curriculum including geography, science, math and other related areas.
  • Training secondary school teachers to incorporate GIS technology in their courses.
  • Providing an articulation mechanism from secondary school to community college to 4 year institutions.
  • Establishing GIS certifications at the community college level.
  • Developing GIS data sets for local applications from the Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) statewide database.
  • Adapting GIS training modules for use by secondary school teachers, small and rural municipal employees and the public.
  • Sponsoring GIS mentors to local secondary schools to help teachers GIS-related problems and solutions.
  • Providing necessary funding for GIS training workshops by subject matter experts to promote the use of GIS technology in rural and under-served school districts.
