• Paying for College

    Del Mar College distributed more than $31 million in financial aid to more than 10,800 eligible students last year. Financial Aid professionals will help you access the assistance you’re qualified to receive to build the future you want. 

    If your family income is $23,000 per year or less, you may be fully eligible for the Pell Grant federal financial aid funds.  Start with the FAFSA application.   

    Del Mar College offers more than 250 specific scholarships, in addition to those available from other foundations and organizations.  Apply using the DMC online scholarship application available when applications are accepted.  To apply for a scholarship, start with the FAFSA application,www.fafsa.ed.gov.

    Overview of Financial Aid
    Aid is available for students who, without assistance, would not be able to afford college.  While the family and student are expected to assume a major responsibility for the costs associated with attending a degree or certificate program at Del Mar College, there are resources available to supplement their efforts.  The role financial aid plays in paying for a student's higher education exists only when there is a gap between school costs and the ability of the family to pay - not their willingness to pay.  Financial aid programs can be placed into the following categories:

     Aid that does not have to be repaid 
    • Grants
    • Scholarships
     

    Aid that has to be repaid 

    • Direct loans to students
    • Parent loan to undergraduate
      studies (PLUS).
     

    Aid that is earned 

    • Workstudy/Employment
     

    Funding for these programs comes from the federal and state governments, college, and private sources.  Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of need, which is the difference between the student's resources and the cost of education. A student must specify an educational goal on the admission application in order to receive financial aid while attending Del Mar College.
