Stringers for Scholarships 2017 Set to Raise Funds for Del Mar College Students

Grab the bait and get ready to fish for a cause. Del Mar College (DMC) and LNV, Inc.––a local engineering, architecture and surveying company––are partnering, again, to host the fourth annual “Stringers for Scholarships” fishing tournament June 16-17 to raise funds for student scholarships.

The tournament features two divisions––guided and unguided fishing.

“We’re so thankful to LNV, Inc. for partnering with us on the fishing tournament,” says Mary McQueen with the College’s Development Office. “They support our mission - to transform Del Mar College students’ lives and the area economy – and are a tremendous asset to our community.”

Last year, the “Stringers for Scholarships” fishing tournament raised nearly $40,000 to assist DMC students with pursuing their dreams.

This year’s two-day event opens with a Captain’s Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at Marker 37 (13317 South Padre Island Drive) with free food sponsored by Saltwater Grill, drinks and a sneak peek at door prizes and raffle items. At least one team member must attend the party to pick up packets with tournament rules, goodie bags and other items.

Anglers fish from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. Angler weigh-in is scheduled 1 to 3 p.m., and contestants must be in line by 3 p.m. to get their fish weighed.

Individual awards for first, second and third place will be given for the following categories: heaviest single speckled trout, heaviest single redfish and heaviest flounder. A single team award will be given for the heaviest stringer not to exceed two trout, one redfish and one flounder. The event also features side pot payouts for an additional fee at registration, along with a Father’s Day Special Prize for father-son and father-daughter teams.

Final deadline to register for the tournament is during the Captain's Party on June 16.
