April 30 through May 6 is 2017 National Small Business Week, marking 54 years that the annual observance has recognized small business owners across the country. To celebrate and salute the achievements of small business owners locally, Del Mar College’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host an evening event, “Entrepreneur Night and Small Business Awards,” on Wednesday, May 3, to recognize winners of this year’s Small Business Week Awards.
“We have a growing list of small businesses that directly impact the Coastal Bend economy through job growth and retention,” says Ann Fierova, director of the College’s SBDC. “Our certified business advisors spend countless hours working with entrepreneurs and small business owners to put them on the path to success. It’s an honor to annually recognize local business leaders who stand out.”
The event will feature a recognition ceremony as well as showcase partners who will make information about resources in the area available to small business owners and other entrepreneurial-minded individuals in attendance. Presentations include “Lessons from a Successful Business Owner” by Bob Becquet, founder and current chair of Coastal Deli, INC. DBA: Jason’s Deli, with the keynote address, “Local Economy and Small Businesses,” by Dr. Jim Lee, professor of economics and director of the South Texas Economic Development Center in the College of Business at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
“Entrepreneur Night and Small Business Awards” runs 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 106 at Del Mar College’s Center for Economic Development, (3209 S. Staples) in Corpus Christi. The event includes hors d'oeuvres catered by Beauty & The Bistro. Corporate supporters of the SBDC include CITGO, Frost Bank, H-E-B, the Westside Business Association and Nueces County Commissioner John Marez, Precinct 3.
